Glossary

EPSCoR – Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research - a national program that provides federal funding to develop research infrastructure in states and territories to support research- based economic development.

STEM – Science Technology Engineering and Math.  Most often used in describing educational programs and efforts to stimulate students and support teachers in these fields.   For example – UNH STEM Discovery Lab  

NHIRC – New Hampshire Innovation Research Center - supports innovations through industry and university collaborations.  Since its inception, the NHIRC has awarded more than 6 million in state funds to support research projects and has been responsible for the creation or retention of 650 jobs.

SBIR – Small Business Innovation Research – a highly competitive federal grant program that encourages domestic small businesses to engage in Federal Research/Research and Development (R/R&D) that has the potential for commercialization.

R&D – Research and Development.

Place Making – the process of creating physical spaces that encourage innovation, such as incubators, accelerators and technology parks
